Digital Signage LCD Enclosures

LCD EnclosureCustom enclosures by HotSpotDS represent years of industry experience. Whether it is a NEMA rated enclosure to withstand blasting from a high-pressure water hose or a simple protective case, keeping your digital sign bright keeps the advertising rolling. “A business with a dark sign is the sign of no business.”

Deciding what display to buy can be a daunting task. After all, you can go to your local electronics dealer and pick one up for a song. However, very few displays are capable of handling the 24x7 365 operation of a commercial display.

There are factors and variables to consider when making a buying decision for your digital signage displays.

They include but are not limited to:

  1. RS-232 control. The need to power the display on and off and volume control for when you are not in close physical proximity to the display.
  2. Another is the ability to scale the displays into a video wall natively. Also called “tiling”; many commercial displays offer the ability to build a matrix of displays in a 2x2 – 5x5 configuration and split the picture across the displays to for a video wall.

While a commercial display is not the right chose for everyone it is always important to do your homework before making the purchase. In our experience we haven’t been able to return a used display yet… Below are some Consumer vs. Commercial considerations.

Consumer LCD TVs:

LCD Enclosure
  1. Lower initial cost, but performance, quality and reliability is sacrificed
  2. Fewer features and OSM options
  3. Not designed for long hours of operation or wide temperature environments
  4. Susceptible to image retention
  5. Designed for accurate flesh tones (white point look pink)
  6. Not designed for portrait mode
  7. 90 day commercial warranty (1 yr consumer)

Commercial-Grade LCDs:

  1. Use “A” grade LCD module glass with tighter specifications
  2. Built for longer operation and wider temperatures
  3. Incorporate a large number of bi-directional controls
  4. Designed for rotation and tiling
  5. Incorporate diagnostics including temperature monitoring
  6. Wide variety of inputs/outputs
  7. Most carry a 3 year warranty period
